چکیده

This paper uses X-ray absorption spectroscopy and vacuum ultra-violet spectroscopic ellipsometry to study the electronic structure of high-k transition metal (TM) oxide gate dielectrics. The results are applicable to TM and rare earth (RE) silicate and aluminate alloys, as well as complex oxides comprised of mixed TM/TM and TM/RE oxides. These studies identify the nature of the lowest conduction band d* states, which define the optical band gap, including their relationship to the band gap, Eg, of the oxide. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. State-dependent electron delocalization dynamics at the solute-solvent interface: soft-x-ray absorption spectroscopy and ab initio calculations.

Nonradiative decay channels in the L-edge fluorescence yield spectra from transition-metal-aqueous solutions give rise to spectral distortions with respect to x-ray transmission spectra. Their origin is unraveled here using partial and inverse partial fluorescence yields on the microjet combined with multireference ab initio electronic structure calculations. Comparing Fe2+, Fe3+, and Co2+ syst...

Comment on "State-dependent electron delocalization dynamics at the solute-solvent interface: soft-x-ray absorption spectroscopy and ab initio calculations".

The crucial role of state-dependent fluorescence yield was established previously [2-4]. Ab initio RAS-SCF approaches for transition-metal L-edge spectroscopy have been reported before [5, 6] and it was established that the state-dependence fluorescence yield for aqueous Cr arises from local atomic effects [4]. In contrast to the assertions in [1] that the analysis in [4] is mostly based on sem...

Intrinsic deviations in fluorescence yield detected x-ray absorption spectroscopy: the case of the transition metal L2,3 edges

Fluorescence yield (FY) detected x-ray absorption spectra (XAS) of 3d transition metal ions are calculated from the integrated 2p3d resonant x-ray emission spectra. The resulting FY-XAS spectra are compared with the normal XAS spectra corresponding to the absorption cross section and significant deviations between the two spectra are found. This implies that the assumption that the FY-XAS spect...

Ab Initio Calculations of X-ray Spectra: Atomic Multiplet and Molecular Orbital Effects in a Multiconfigurational SCF Approach to the L-Edge Spectra of Transition Metal Complexes.

A new ab initio approach to the calculation of X-ray spectra is demonstrated. It combines a high-level quantum chemical description of the chemical interactions and local atomic multiplet effects. We show here calculated L-edge X-ray absorption (XA) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering spectra for aqueous Ni(2+) and XA spectra for a polypyridyl iron complex. Our quantum chemical calculations...
